Canyon Pointe Academy raised enough money during International Week to buy a cow. Are they starting a farm to complement their Garden Club? Since cows and lions don’t get along very well, the amazing students at Canyon Pointe decided to donate their money to Heifer International, is a charity organization working to end hunger and poverty around the world by providing livestock and training to struggling communities. Each day, Canyon student emptied their piggy banks into donation buckets and progress was tracked by a gigantic thermometer! As of Friday, Canyon raised hundreds of dollars to help an international community with more money waiting to be counted. We are so proud! Stay tuned for final totals and what students elected to buy!
Congratulations to Ms. Hobbs’ second grade class! In December, Canyon students competed in the “Scholastic Reading Club Great Bedtime Story Pajama Drive,” a nonprofit organization that provides new pajamas and books to children in need. While all Canyon students worked hard at collecting pajamas, Ms. Hobbs’ class donated the most pajamas. As a reward for their positive contribution, Ms. Hobbs’ class received a special pancake breakfast AND were allowed to wear their pajamas to school! Great job, Ms. Hobbs’ class! We’re proud of your efforts and for demonstrating the importance of helping your community.
This week kicked off our Pajama and Canned Food Drive, which will run through Wednesday, 12/14. Pajamas can be newborn thru adult in size and must be brand new with tags/packaging. Pajamas and canned food can be dropped off in the Café before and after school. Canyon has partnered with Scholastic and for every pair of pajamas donated, Scholastic will donate a book as well! Also, Thursday, 12/15 will be a dress down pajama day for $1. Students and staff can pay $1 to wear their pajamas to school! All donations will be used to purchase new pajamas for children in need.
There are a couple contests going on to encourage students and their families to get into the spirit of giving: the class that brings in the most pajamas will win a ‘Pajama and Pancake Party’; the grade level that brings in the most canned food will also win a fun themed party (details to come).
This week, PinnacleTV and CanyonTV crew members took a special trip to deliver the blankets donated during Community Week. All the blankets were provided to HALO Animal Rescue to benefit the dogs and cats in need. Check out the Morning Shows for an in-depth look at the community facility and critters benefitting from those blankets! Thank you all for your kind donations.
Mr. Wernsing and Ms. Millions 5th graders wanted to help ‘beautify’ CPA during their Brain Break by picking up trash around the campus! Way to go 5th graders and THANK YOU for caring!!
Canyon Cares Blanket Drive was a HUGE success! As usual, our Lions family stepped up and our two boxes were overflowing with cozy blankets. Some families even brought in some food and treats for our friends. We collected over 40 blankets to keep our furry friends warm in various shelters across Phoenix. Thank you Canyon Families for your support! Keep checking the website for information on our next big Canyon Cares event, The Penny Drive!
This week, we will continue to host our Blanket Drive! Canyon Cares is collecting new and gently used blankets to give to pet rescue facilities and shelters across The Valley. Collection boxes are in the Café and blankets will be collected until Friday, January 22nd!
At The Station, Mrs. Fallon challenged the students to see if they could fill 4 boxes; Let’s see if we can! There are currently only two boxes and they are already almost full! Wait to go Lions!
